CPA for ABA Practitioners in Canada
Professional corporation incorporation. CPBAO compliance. Contractor classification expertise. Tax deductions specific to your practice. We understand your world — most CPAs don't.
Cheap incorporation. Clear taxes. No surprises.
Running an ABA practice as a sole proprietor costs you thousands in unnecessary taxes
You're great at what you do clinically. The tax and compliance side is a different world — and most general accountants don't know ABA-specific rules any better than you do.
Should I incorporate as a Professional Corporation?+
Probably yes — but the threshold depends on your income. Most BCBAs earning $80K+ save thousands annually through tax deferral. Income left inside the corporation is taxed at ~12.2% vs. your personal marginal rate of up to 53.5%. Note: unlike general corporations, ABA professional corporations cannot split income with a non-registrant spouse — all shareholders must be CPBAO registrants.
What exactly is CPBAO compliance for a professional corporation?+
CPBAO-registered behaviour analysts who want to practice through a corporation must obtain a Certificate of Authorization from CPBAO ($350 initial, $250/year renewal) — on top of Ontario incorporation. All shareholders, officers, and directors must be current CPBAO registrants. Non-registrant spouses cannot hold shares. The corporation name must follow strict CPBAO naming rules (surname + "Applied Behaviour Analysis Professional Corporation"). These rules are similar to physician and dentist PCs. Getting the structure wrong puts your Certificate of Authorization at risk.
Am I classified correctly by CRA — self-employed or employed?+
If you work for a clinic but you're paid as a contractor, CRA may reclassify you as an employee. That means back taxes, CPP, and EI. We review your arrangement and flag the risk before CRA does.
What can I actually deduct as an ABA practitioner?+
BACB certification fees, CPBAO dues, clinical software (Catalyst, CentralReach), mileage for home visits, home office, CE conferences, RBT training and supervision costs, professional liability insurance, and more.
Is my ABA revenue subject to HST?+
It depends on who you're treating and how you're funded. OAP-funded services have different HST rules than private-pay. Getting this wrong creates CRA liability — in both directions.

Annual CPBAO renewal — we remind you
Your corporation's Certificate of Authorization renews every year ($250). As an ongoing client, we track your renewal date and remind you before it lapses — because a lapsed CoA means your corporation cannot legally practice ABA in Ontario.
